Teens in Stolen Car Cause Fatal Accident
Five teenagers driving a stolen vehicle crashed into a motorcycle in a Philadelphia neighborhood Tuesday night, killing the 55-year-old motorcyclist. Philadelphia Police Department reports that the five teens, ages 15 to 17, were traveling in a stolen KIA SUV when they struck the motorcycle. The 17-year-old driver continued for half a block before stopping and the car’s occupants, three girls and two boys, fled the scene on foot. They were all caught and arrested approximately two blocks from the scene.
The entire incident was caught on police cameras and a gas station security camera directly across the street. According to police, the video shows the SUV driver running a red light while traveling north on Front Street, and slamming into the motorcycle crossing the Hunting Park intersection. The Kia SUV was reported stolen from a Northeast Philadelphia neighborhood Monday.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing, including inquiries as to whether or not police were driving behind the stolen vehicle prior to the incident, after onlookers reported that officers responded to the scene within “seconds.”
