14-Year-Old Girl Charged With Vehicular Homicide After Killing 15-Year-Old Boy

The young girl driving the car in the deadly Philly crash is now facing charges of vehicular homicide.

On Sunday evening, a 14-year-old girl was behind the wheel of a car that caused a crash, leaving the eastbound lanes of the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76) closed down for hours, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

Official reports state that officers in Philadelphia first tried to stop a black Hyundai Sonata at about 5:50 p.m. on I-76 at mile marker 342.2. The car was reported stolen out of the city earlier in the day, the troopers said.

State officials say the Sonata failed to yield to emergency lights and sped away from law enforcement. The under-aged driver lost control and crashed the vehicle into a concrete barrier before swerving and rolling several times up an embankment.

A 15-year-old boy who was ejected from the car succumbed to his injuries a short time later at the hospital, according to police. Three other juveniles who were occupants of the Sonata were also taken to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia with injuries.
