Montgomery Avenue Construction to Disrupt Traffic Through Friday

Montgomery Ave Construction

Lower Merion Township officials announced construction will take place on Montgomery Avenue now through Friday, August 23 to finish repaving the paved surfaces. Drivers should expect traffic delays between Morris Avenue and Grays Lane each day from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

Roadway construction zones are dangerous for workers and drivers alike. In Pennsylvania, approximately 2,000 accidents per year occur in work zones, usually caused by reckless drivers who ignore safety and driving laws. Though driving through a construction zone can be overwhelming, drivers can take measures to reduce risks and improve safety for everyone, such as:

  • Turning on the vehicle’s headlights – required by law.
  • Staying alert and paying attention to flaggers, work crews, and other motorists.
  • Avoiding distractions, such as cell phone use or eating.
  • Obeying all posted signs – fines are increased in work zones.
  • Following posted speed limits and avoiding speeding.
  • Not tailgating others and maintaining a safe distance from workers.
  • Engaging four-way flashers when stopped or traveling slower than posted speed limits.
  • Signaling earlier when changing lanes, turning, or exiting the roadway.
  • Preparing for sudden stops and traffic changes.
